The AtlantikSolar prototype UAV completed its first solar-powered flight on September 5th, 2013. Two 1-hour long test flights were performed, during which the newly installed lightweight solar system was tested w.r.t its electrical and structural characteristics and its influence on the aerodynamics of the AtlantikSolar prototype. The tests showed a successful charging of the on-board batteries during flight. In the upcoming days, we will be performing a detailed verification of the test data gathered. The next step will then be to extend the duration of the solar-powered flights in order to reach the goal of performing a ~12h flight in late September/October.
